Pitch script builder: a three-minute pitch, beat by beat

Investors remember the first 15 seconds and the ask. Write each beat inside its word budget, then rehearse with the timer until the numbers come out without looking at the slide.

The nine beats

Hook, problem, solution, why now, traction, market, business model, team, ask. Three minutes is 170 seconds of speaking at a calm pace, about 400 words. Most founders write twice that and rush.

Lead with the number

The hook is one sentence: what you do for whom and the proof. “We help dental clinics fill cancelled slots; 140 clinics pay us $300 a month” beats any vision statement. Traction belongs in the first minute, not the last.

The ask

Amount, instrument, and three milestones the money buys. Investors judge whether the milestones unlock the next round at a higher price. Vague asks signal that you have not modelled the use of funds.

Rehearse with the timer

The timer moves through the beats at the seconds you set. If you keep running over on the same beat, the problem is the text, not the delivery. Cut words until it fits, then rehearse the questions with the investor dry run.

Questions founders ask

Why word budgets?

At about 2.4 words per second, every beat has a maximum length. Over budget means you will speed up and lose the room.

Can I change the beat order?

Keep the order for a first meeting; it is what investors expect. Change the seconds instead.

Is my script saved?

No. Copy it before leaving the page.
